(Source: cinemablend.com)   Coraline is still in theaters, but we know that it’s never too early to start thinking about the DVD release. Our own Josh Tyler got the chance to talk with Henry Selick at SXSW and the movie’s director shed some light on what we can expect to see once the animated movie comes home.

The big news – just because you missed out on Coraline in Digital 3D in theaters doesn’t mean you’re going to lose out on watching part of the movie pop out at you. Coraline will be getting a 3D treatment for home theaters, although it’s not the kind we were hoping for. ”Some DVDs will be sold with the anaglyphic, the red and the green.” Selick shared with us. “That will be this year.”

I have to admit a little bit of disappointment over an anaglyphic approach to creating Coraline’s 3D effects for home release. That system, offering glasses with red and blue lenses, robs any viewing of a lot of the color built into the movie. I’m not alone in that disappointment. ”I would prefer they wait, Selick commented. ”There are home systems with the polarized glasses, they’re phenomenal.”. Of course, they aren’t really available to the general public yet, so waiting for that would mean a non-3D release for the movie.
