First, the news broke that Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst have walked from Spider-Man 4. Then Sony went ahead and officially announced a full-on reboot with sights set for a currently unspecified summer 2012 release date.

Now Entertainment Weekly has even more details on the matter. When the studio lined up screenwriter James Vanderbilt to pen Spider-Man 5 and 6, they did it so as a back-up plan. You know, just in case things fell apart with Team Raimi. AKA they smelled smoke in the kitchen and ordered take-out.

In a second coup for France, Paris’ Buf Compagnie, a top Gallic vfx/toon house, will serve as the lead vfx house on “Thor,” channeling tax coin into the Marvel production.
