(Source: indiantelevision.com) Visual effects director and Prime Focus president VFX Worldwide Micheal Fink has directed his first Indian TV commercial for Lotte Coffy Bite.

The Mumbai-based company was appointed by Rediffusion Y&R and MAD Entertainment for the toffee brand’s latest TV commercial.

The commercial shows that the Coffee-Toffee argument propagated by the Coffy Bite brand has moved beyond human kind into the realm of the animal kingdom. The ad shows two frogs – Leo and Dino – vying for a Coffy Bite. As the frogs needed to emote and converse, the frogs had to be completely created using CGI and visual effects, each with its own unique and distinct characteristics.

The unions covering Hollywood’s 2,000 animators announced Tuesday they had made the deal, which will take effect August 1 if ratified by members. Negotiations began May 18 and concluded Monday night.

Local 839 is part of the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.

The deal includes a minimum 2 percent salary hike each year and a 1.5 percent gain in the employer contributions to the health and pension plan. There is also an increase in the number of hours employees will be required to work to keep benefits, similar to the new provisions in the IATSE West Coast contract that covers about 25,000 below-the-line workers.

(Source: PR.com) James Cameron’s epic new 3D movie Avatar, expected in theaters this Winter, has a mountain of press expectations to climb. The movie is widely rumored to be so forward-thinking that it may change the way we experience movies altogether – and Greg Passmore, president of PassmoreLab in San Diego thinks he knows why.

Responding to a recent NY Times article about Avatar, where behavioral neurologists commented that Mr. Cameron’s work could tap brain systems that are undisturbed by conventional 2D movies, Greg Passmore, a 3D film producer himself, smiles.

“It’s never been done before on this scale,” says Passmore. “And the effect could be mind-blowing.”
