iPhone Tip: Hold Your “.com” Button For A Second

If you are running the new 2.0 firmware on your iPhone or iPod touch, you might not have noticed a new handy shortcut in Safari.

When you type in your address, hold down the “.com” button to get a selection of 3 other domain name endings: “.net,” “.edu,” and “.org.” When you tap on any of the endings, it will be automatically inserted in the address bar.

Joss Whedon’s ‘Dr. Horrible’ Uses iPhone For Evil

I’m pretty sure that the SDK license agreement explicitly forbids super-villainous activities, but no silly piece of paper (or PDF) is going to stop Dr. Horrible. The would-be world ruler who can’t catch a break (either from his laundromat crush or from arch-nemesis Captain Hammer) is seen using his iPhone to remote-control a van in the debut episode of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, the three-part Internet mini musical from Buffy & Firefly creator Joss Whedon. Clearly, the grand cinematic iPhone tradition of Journeyman lives on.

Close examination of Doc H’s UI indicates that he’s actually using Mobile Safari to steer his van, so perhaps that’s how he’s remaining on the right side of the EULA — although that radioactive icon on the left is quite ominous. If you want to see it in action for yourself, watch Act I for free on drhorrible.com (which is getting Captain Hammered itself right now, so you may have to wait a while) or pick up the episode on iTunes.

REMASTERS

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds and Mute announce the first four albums in a series that will see the band’s entire album catalogue digitally re-mastered and remixed in 5.1 surround sound.

From Her To Eternity, The First Born Is Dead, Kicking Against The Pricks and Your Funeral, My Trial are set to be released at the end of the year.

Each deluxe double-disc collector’s edition contains the re-mastered stereo album, the new surround mix, a specially commissioned short film made by acclaimed UK artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard plus single b-sides and
exclusive sleeve notes.

CALL FOR PARICIPANTS IN THE FILMS FOR THE ALBUM REMASTERS

Artists Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard have been commissioned to produce a series of short films that will accompany each of the recently announced Collector’s Editions when Mute release the remastered Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds studio albums.
