The lineup for this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has been announced, and it has some surprises on it. First, the opening day will be headlined by surf guitarist and Curious George fan Jack Johnson. Saturday will feature the return of mid-90’s dance act Portishead, and closing things out on Sunday night will be Roger Waters, performing the whole of Dark Side of the Moon in concert.

Now, those things are cool, but the acts that were rumored leading up to the festival are nowhere to be found. Where’s My Bloody Valentine? David Bowie? Radiohead? What you can honestly say, looking at the whole list, is that the lineup is far less impressive than in years past.

After spending a brief time off line (in the US and Canada), the Apple Store is back up with something new to show for it — pink iPod nanos.

It’s available in 8GB only, costs $199US (just like its 8GB siblings) and is shipping for free. We thought it might be tied to a charity — perhaps Breast Cancer Awareness — as the RED nano is, but it’s simply pink for pink’s sake. Just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Perhaps you’ve seen the documentary Trekkies. Hosted by the late Tasha Yar (curse you, Armus!), it profiles several of the show’s most zealous fans and by that I mean people with serious mental disorders. Did you see what they did to that poor truck? None of us would get so carried away with our Apple fandom.

Just a minute. Before you set your phasers to Smug, check out the trailer for MacHeads: The Movie. It feels like a cross between Trekkies and Leander Kahney’s The Cult of Mac. Several users proclaim their love, including the guy with the tattoos and the girl who states in no uncertain terms that she has never slept with a Windows user. A few Mac celebs appear as well, including the man who isn’t America’s least-beloved technology pundit.

(http://fishslice.blog.com) For readers who have just heard of my website, let me bring you up to date.

I am a New Zealander living in Auckland who has been victimized by a rouge and criminal film production. I suspect that Peter Jackson a film director from Wellington is one of the Master minds behind my torture. Other people involved included Mike Havoc, Claire Chitam, Dave slade,Oliver Driver, David Herkt and a company of misfits and unthinkers.

Yes that is right torture. I have been kidnapped and have biotech device embedded in my body these devices operate digitally and are used to torture me. I suffer great and sustained continuous pain. I have people talking into a cell phone secreted in my body and have many of my bodily functions controlled by computer and hideous individuals. Some people call me the Robot man.

Members of the Visual Effects Society begin voting this month on the winners for the group’s annual awards presentation.  As visual effects artists already spend much of their time in front of a computer, the Encino-based society decided to put that time to good use with its online view and vote.

Allowing online access to clips and the ballot also gives the worldwide membership a voice.   With the first year of the online voting in particular showing an increase over those who voted in person, the society decided to keep doing it to keep the global membership involved.

No solid information on this yet, but he was apparently found dead in his New York apartment this morning. Rumors currently are that it was a ‘drug related’ death or he hanged himself (or both). Interestingly, someone has already updated the Wiki page on him with today’s date for his death:

According to the New York City Police Department, Heath Ledger was found dead in his apartment in downtown Manhattan on January 22, 2008.
